Toxicology

Definition of Toxicology as it relates to Science, Environmental Science, Environmental Chemistry

Toxicology is a branch of science that focuses on the study of harmful effects of chemicals on living organisms, particularly in the context of environmental exposure and health risks. As an integral part of Environmental Chemistry within Environmental Science, it investigates how toxic substances enter, interact with, and are processed by biological systems, as well as their potential adverse health impacts. By examining the mechanisms behind toxicity, environmental chemists and toxicologists can better understand the ecological consequences of chemical pollution and inform strategies for risk assessment, mitigation, and management.
