Public Health

Definition of Public Health as it relates to Health

Public Health refers to the science and practice of promoting and protecting the health of populations, as distinct from the medical care of individuals. It encompasses a wide range of disciplines and activities aimed at improving the physical, mental, and social well-being of communities, including disease prevention, health promotion, environmental health, injury prevention, and disaster response. Public Health professionals work to identify and address the underlying causes of health problems, such as poverty, education, housing, and nutrition, in order to improve the overall health of a population. They often collaborate with other sectors, such as education, transportation, and agriculture, to create healthy environments that support individuals and families in making healthy choices. Ultimately, Public Health is concerned with ensuring that everyone has the opportunity to live a healthy life, regardless of their social or economic status.
