Public Health

Definition of Public Health as it relates to Health, Adolescent Health

Public Health refers to the science and practice of promoting health and preventing disease within communities and populations, rather than focusing on individual patients. It encompasses various disciplines such as epidemiology, biostatistics, environmental health, health services administration, behavioral health, and social and community health. Public Health interventions aim to protect and improve the health of entire populations, including vulnerable groups like adolescents, by addressing the underlying determinants of health, such as socio-economic factors, education, housing, and access to healthcare. Public Health initiatives include vaccination programs, tobacco control policies, water and sanitation improvements, and health promotion campaigns, among others.
