Definition of Public Health as it relates to Health, Environmental Health

Public Health refers to the science and art of preventing disease, prolonging life, and promoting health through organized efforts of society, as opposed to individual choices. It encompasses Environmental Health, which is concerned with all aspects of the natural and built environment that may affect human health, including air and water quality, food safety, waste management, housing, and occupational health. Public Health also includes Health, which refers to a state of complete physical, mental, and social well-being, not merely the absence of disease or infirmity. It is a multidisciplinary field that draws on biostatistics, epidemiology, health services administration, health policy, social work, environmental sciences, and behavioral sciences to improve the health of populations. Public Health focuses on the prevention of disease and injury, as well as the promotion of healthy behaviors and environments, through education, legislation, regulation, and community-based interventions. The ultimate goal of public health is to ensure that all individuals have access to the resources they need to lead healthy lives, regardless of their social or economic status.
