Public Health

Definition of Public Health as it relates to Health, Health Care

Public Health refers to the collective efforts of society to ensure the conditions in which people can be healthy, including healthcare but also encompassing wider factors such as social determinants of health and preventative measures. It is concerned with protecting and improving the health of entire communities through education, policy development, and research for disease and injury prevention. Public Health addresses issues at a population level, rather than focusing on individual patient care. It involves the promotion of healthy lifestyles, the prevention and control of infectious diseases, chronic diseases, injuries, disabilities, and environmental hazards, and the assurance of safe food, water, and clean air. Ultimately, Public Health aims to ensure that all people have equal opportunities for good health, regardless of their socio-economic status or background.
