Definition of Educational Technology as it relates to Education, Science Education, Instructional Science Methods

Educational Technology refers to the study and ethical application of technological processes and resources to foster learning, teaching and research activities with the aim of improving access, efficiency, effectiveness and quality of education. It encompasses the development and use of digital tools such as multimedia presentations, simulations, virtual laboratories, online courses, social media, mobile devices, and analytics to support science education, instructional design, and assessment. Educational technology is grounded in the principles and methods of instructional science, which seeks to understand how people learn, and how technology can be used to enhance learning outcomes, promote engagement and motivation, facilitate collaboration, and accommodate diverse learning styles and needs. Ultimately, educational technology aims to empower educators, students, and researchers to harness the potential of digital technologies for transforming education and advancing knowledge in science and other fields.
