African Elephants

Definition of African Elephants as it relates to Animals, Zoo Animals, African Animals

African elephants are large mammals, native to the savannas and forests of sub-Saharan Africa. They are known for their long trunks, which they use for breathing, lifting objects, and gathering food. African elephants also have large ears that help regulate body temperature and communicate with other elephants through infrasound. These gentle giants live in complex social structures, led by a matriarch, and can be found in zoos and wildlife sanctuaries around the world. They play an important role in maintaining the biodiversity of their ecosystems by creating clearings and paths in vegetation as they move about. Unfortunately, African elephants are threatened by habitat loss and poaching for their ivory tusks. Conservation efforts are underway to protect these magnificent animals and ensure their survival for future generations.
