Walruses
Walruses are large marine mammals known for their distinctive tusks and whiskers. They inhabit the Arctic regions of the Northern Hemisphere, where they spend most of their time in the water but come ashore to rest and give birth. Walruses are social animals that live in herds and communicate through a variety of vocalizations and body movements. They feed primarily on benthic invertebrates, such as mollusks and crustaceans, which they extract from the seafloor using their sensitive whiskers to detect prey. Walruses are also known for their remarkable ability to dive deep into the ocean to forage for food, with some individuals capable of reaching depths of over 300 feet. Despite their impressive physical adaptations and cultural significance, walruses face numerous threats from human activities, including habitat loss, overfishing, and climate change.
