Walruses
Walruses are large marine mammals known for their distinctive tusks and whiskers. They are found primarily in the Arctic regions, where they spend most of their lives in or near the water. Walruses are social animals that live in large groups called herds. They feed on a diet of benthic invertebrates, including mollusks, worms, and crustaceans, which they extract from the sea floor using their sensitive whiskers to detect prey. Walruses have a thick layer of blubber that provides insulation and buoyancy, as well as allowing them to float on their backs while resting. They use their powerful flippers to swim and dive, and are able to hold their breath for up to 30 minutes. Walruses communicate using a variety of vocalizations, including bellows, roars, and grunts. Despite their size and strength, walruses face numerous threats from human activities, including hunting, habitat loss, and climate change.
