Wolves

Definition of Wolves as it relates to Animals, Mammals, Canines

Wolves are large carnivores known for their distinctive grayish-brown fur and powerful howls, which they use to communicate with each other over long distances. They belong to the Canidae family, which also includes domestic dogs, foxes, and jackals. Wolves typically live in packs of 6-10 individuals, led by a dominant pair known as the alpha male and female. These highly social animals have complex social structures, with each member having a specific role within the group. They are skilled hunters that primarily prey on large ungulates like deer and elk, but will also eat smaller mammals, birds, and even fish. Wolves once roamed throughout North America, Europe, and Asia, but were hunted to near extinction in many areas due to their perceived threat to livestock. Today, conservation efforts are underway to protect and restore wolf populations in some regions, while in others they remain a controversial and politically charged issue.
