Fissipedia
Fissipedia is an order of mammals characterized by having plantigrade locomotion, meaning they walk on the soles of their feet with their heels touching the ground. This order includes a diverse range of species, all of which are classified under the class Mammalia and infraclass Eutheria. The animals in this category share common features such as fur or hair covering their bodies, mammary glands for nursing their young, and skeletal structures adapted for terrestrial locomotion. The term Fissipedia is derived from Latin words "fissus" meaning split and "pes" meaning foot, referring to the split or cleft between the digits of these mammals. This feature distinguishes them from other orders such as Pinnipedia (seals, sea lions, and walruses) which have flippers instead of feet. Fissipedia includes familiar animals like dogs, cats, bears, raccoons, weasels, otters, mongooses, and many others. Despite their diverse appearances and behaviors, they all belong to the same order due to shared evolutionary history and anatomical characteristics. In essence, Fissipedia is a group of mammals that have evolved to walk on plantigrade feet, allowing them to adapt to various terrestrial habitats around the world.
