Zen Buddhism
Zen Buddhism: A school of Mahayana Buddhism that originated in China during the Tang Dynasty, before spreading to Korea and Japan. It emphasizes direct, experiential realization through meditation and mindfulness, rather than intellectual understanding or scriptural study. Zen is often characterized by its minimalistic aesthetic, unconventional teaching methods, and focus on the inherent Buddha-nature of all beings. It has had a profound influence on Chinese culture, particularly in the realms of art, literature, and philosophy. The study and practice of Zen can provide insight into the nature of self, reality, and existence, as well as cultivate qualities such as compassion, wisdom, and equanimity.
