Pharmacology

Definition of Pharmacology as it relates to Science, Medicine, Neurology

Pharmacology is the study of how drugs interact with living organisms to produce a change in function. It involves understanding how different substances affect neurotransmitter systems, ion channels, and other cellular targets in the nervous system. As part of neurology, pharmacology seeks to develop medications that can improve symptoms or slow the progression of neurological disorders. Research in this area includes the discovery and testing of new compounds, as well as the optimization of existing drugs for better efficacy and safety. By applying principles from fields such as biochemistry, physiology, and genetics, pharmacologists aim to advance our knowledge of how drugs work and ultimately improve patient care.
