Definition of Green Building as it relates to Real Estate, Land Use Planning, Land Use Regulations

Green Building, under Land Use Regulations in the Real Estate and Land Use Planning hierarchy, refers to the practice of creating structures that are environmentally responsible and resource-efficient throughout their life-cycle. This includes siting, design, construction, operation, maintenance, renovation, and demolition. By emphasizing energy and water efficiency, sustainable and non-toxic materials, and waste reduction, Green Building promotes occupant health and well-being while minimizing negative impacts on the environment and conserving natural resources.
