Learning Analytics

Definition of Learning Analytics as it relates to Education, Instructional Technology, Flipped Classroom

Learning analytics refers to the measurement, collection, analysis and reporting of data about learners and their contexts, for purposes of understanding and optimizing learning and the environments in which it occurs. It is an interdisciplinary field that combines educational research, instructional technology, data science, and computer science to improve teaching and learning outcomes. In the context of a flipped classroom, learning analytics can provide insights into student engagement with course materials and activities, both inside and outside of class. This information can be used to inform instructional decisions, identify areas where students are struggling, and provide personalized feedback to learners. Ultimately, learning analytics aims to support data-informed decision making in education, helping educators and learners make the most of their time and resources.
