Organizational Change

Definition of Organizational Change as it relates to Business, Human Resource Management, Recruitment and Staffing

Organizational Behavior (OB) is the study and application of knowledge about how individuals and groups act in organizations. It seeks to understand and explain the impact that individuals, groups, and structure have on behavior within organizations for the purpose of applying such knowledge toward improving an organization's effectiveness. OB draws from numerous disciplines including psychology, sociology, communication, cultural anthropology, economics, political science, philosophy and mathematics. Its scope includes both the internal workings of an organization (e.g., leadership, motivation, team dynamics) as well as external factors such as the relationship between the organization and its environment (e.g., power, politics, culture). OB is closely related to human resource management, recruitment and staffing as these areas focus on understanding and managing people in organizations to achieve desired outcomes. Overall, Organizational Behavior provides a framework for understanding and improving organizational effectiveness by examining the behaviors of individuals and groups within an organization.
