Definition of Biblical Studies as it relates to Books, Religious Books, Religious History Books

Biblical Studies: The systematic and scholarly examination of the Bible, its texts, contexts, languages, histories, literary styles, genres, themes, interpretations, influences, and impact on religious thought, practice, culture, and society. It encompasses the analysis and understanding of the Old Testament (Hebrew Bible) and New Testament, including their historical backgrounds, authorship, composition, canonicity, transmission, translation, and interpretation across different time periods, communities, and traditions. Biblical Studies also involves engaging with various methodologies, theories, and approaches, such as literary criticism, historical criticism, source criticism, form criticism, redaction criticism, tradition criticism, rhetorical criticism, canonical criticism, social-scientific criticism, feminist criticism, cultural studies, postcolonial criticism, and theological interpretation. Biblical Studies aims to deepen the knowledge, appreciation, and critical thinking about the Bible, its messages, and meanings for individuals, communities, and societies, as well as to contribute to the ongoing dialogue between faith and reason, religion and culture, and theology and ethics.
