Talmud

Definition of Talmud as it relates to Books, Religious Books, Jewish Literature

The Talmud is a central text in Jewish tradition and scholarship, consisting of both the Mishnah - an early rabbinic code of law from around 200 CE - and the Gemara - a series of commentaries and analyses on the Mishnah written between the 3rd and 5th centuries CE. Together, these texts form a comprehensive exploration of Jewish law, ethics, customs, and history, as well as discussions of philosophy, theology, and folklore. The Talmud serves as a key source for understanding Jewish thought and practice throughout history and continues to be studied and debated by scholars and religious communities today.
