Sunnis

Sunnis are adherents of Sunni Islam, one of the two main branches of Islam, the other being Shia Islam. Sunni Muslims follow the teachings and practices of the Prophet Muhammad as recorded in the hadith (sayings and actions of the Prophet) and the Sunnah (traditions of the Prophet). They make up the majority of the Muslim population worldwide and are known for their emphasis on following the consensus of the community (ijma) and the analogy (qiyas) in interpreting Islamic teachings. Sunnis believe in the sovereignty of God, the finality of prophethood with Muhammad, and the importance of the Qur'an as the holy book of Islam. They also revere the four rightly guided caliphs who succeeded the Prophet Muhammad.
