Ringed Seal
The ringed seal is a species of seal native to the Arctic and sub-Arctic regions. It is named for the distinctive light-colored circular markings on its coat. Ringed seals are small to medium-sized seals with a rounded body shape and a short, broad head. They have a thick layer of blubber to help them stay warm in cold waters. Ringed seals are skilled divers and can stay underwater for up to 45 minutes at a time. They primarily feed on fish, crustaceans, and other small marine creatures. Ringed seals are an important food source for polar bears and are culturally significant to Indigenous peoples in the Arctic.
