Passover
Passover, also known as Pesach, is a significant Jewish holiday commemorating the liberation of the Israelites from slavery in Egypt as told in the book of Exodus in the Hebrew Bible. It is a time of remembrance and celebration of divine deliverance and redemption. The holiday lasts for eight days, during which certain dietary restrictions are observed, including the prohibition of eating leavened products such as bread, symbolizing the haste with which the Israelites left Egypt. A central ritual during Passover is the Seder meal, which involves the retelling of the Exodus story, singing hymns, and partaking in traditional foods like matzah (unleavened bread), charoset (a sweet mixture of apples, nuts, and wine), and maror (bitter herbs). The significance of Passover extends beyond Judaism, as it is one of the three pilgrimage festivals mentioned in the Hebrew Bible and holds great importance in the broader context of monotheistic religions, including Christianity and Islam, which also recognize the historical events and figures associated with this holiday.
