Planetary Science

Definition of Planetary Science as it relates to Science, Life Science, Astronomy, Ecology

Planetary Science is the study of the planets, moons, and other celestial bodies in our solar system and beyond. It combines elements from several fields, including physics, chemistry, geology, and astronomy, to investigate the composition, structure, processes, and history of these objects. This field is closely related to Life Science as it also involves studying the potential for life beyond Earth. As a subfield of Ecology, Planetary Science examines how planetary systems function as complex systems and how they support and sustain life. Within the hierarchy of Science/Life Science/Astronomy/Ecology, Planetary Science represents an in-depth exploration of specific celestial bodies within the context of their larger ecological systems.
