Photosynthesis
Photosynthesis is the process by which green plants, algae, and some bacteria convert light energy, usually from the sun, into chemical energy in the form of glucose or other sugars. This process is fundamental to life on Earth as it provides the oxygen that animals need to breathe and the food that supports the majority of the planet's ecosystems. Photosynthesis occurs in specialized organelles called chloroplasts, which contain the pigment chlorophyll that absorbs light.
