Christian Science

Definition of Christian Science as it relates to Religions, Pantheism

Christian Science is a religion founded in 1879 by Mary Baker Eddy, based on her teachings and interpretation of the Bible. It emphasizes spiritual healing through an understanding of God as infinite, all-knowing Mind, and the universe as the reflection of this Mind. Adherents believe that matter is unreal and that disease is a mental error that can be corrected through prayer and a change in thought. Christian Science teaches that evil does not exist and that sin is an illusion, and it rejects the use of medicine or medical treatments. It has its own church organization, The First Church of Christ, Scientist, with headquarters in Boston, Massachusetts, and publications including the Christian Science Monitor newspaper.
