Dark Energy

Definition of Dark Energy as it relates to Science, Physics, Stellar Evolution

Dark Energy, a term coined by physicists, refers to an unknown form of energy thought to permeate all of space and account for approximately 68% of the total energy in the observable universe. Its existence is implied in a variety of observations, including measurements of the cosmic microwave background, large scale structure in the distribution of galaxies, and distant supernovae. In the context of Stellar Evolution, Dark Energy plays a role in the ultimate fate of the universe. As galaxies move away from each other due to its repulsive force, stars may eventually exhaust their fuel and cease to form new generations, leaving a cold, dark expanse of matter and energy.
