Dark Energy refers to an unknown form of energy thought to permeate all of space and responsible for the observed acceleration in the expansion of the universe. It is a key area of study within cosmology, which investigates the origins, evolution, and eventual fate of the cosmos. Dark Energy's existence was first postulated by observations indicating that the universe is not only expanding, but doing so at an ever-increasing rate. The nature and properties of Dark Energy are still a mystery, making it a fertile ground for research in both astronomy and physics. Despite its name, Dark Energy is not "dark" in the sense of being invisible or undetectable, but rather because of our lack of understanding of its fundamental nature.
