Definition of String Theory as it relates to Science, Physics, High Energy Physics

String theory is a theoretical framework in which the point-like particles of particle physics are replaced by one-dimensional objects called strings. These strings can vibrate at different frequencies, and each vibration corresponds to a particular type of particle, with its mass and charge determined by the string's vibrational frequency. String theory aims to reconcile quantum mechanics and general relativity, two fundamental pillars of physics that are currently incompatible. In this framework, the universe has ten dimensions, six of which are compactified or "hidden" at very small scales. String theory also predicts the existence of gravity waves and other phenomena that have since been observed, lending credence to the theory. As a subcategory under High Energy Physics within the broader context of Science and Physics, String Theory represents an attempt to unify all fundamental forces in nature into a single theoretical framework, pushing the boundaries of our understanding of the universe.
