Epidemiology
Definition of Epidemiology as it relates to Science, Medicine, Pediatrics
Epidemiology is the study of how often diseases occur in different groups of people and why. It is concerned with the distribution, patterns and determinants of health conditions and health-related events in specified populations. In pediatrics, epidemiological studies are crucial to understand the prevalence and causes of childhood illnesses, disabilities, and deaths. These studies help identify risk factors and develop targeted interventions to improve child health outcomes. By applying epidemiologic principles and methods, pediatricians can monitor disease trends, evaluate interventions, and inform public health policies for children's health.
