Definition of Sustainable Agriculture as it relates to Environment, Ocean Conservation

Sustainable agriculture refers to farming practices designed to meet the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs, through ecosystem-friendly methods that are profitable, socially supportive, and environmentally sound. This includes crop rotation, soil conservation, integrated pest management, permaculture, agroforestry, organic farming, and other strategies that promote biodiversity, reduce chemical use, conserve water, enhance soil health, support local food systems, and mitigate climate change. These methods not only protect the environment but also contribute to ocean conservation by reducing runoff of agricultural chemicals and sediments that can harm marine life. Sustainable agriculture is a holistic approach that encompasses economic, social, and environmental dimensions, aiming to create resilient and regenerative food systems for all.
