Definition of Library Science as it relates to Education, Home Economics Education, Foreign Language Education

Library Science encompasses the study and practice of organizing, managing, preserving, and providing access to information resources. It involves understanding various types of library materials such as books, journals, multimedia, digital content, and primary sources; developing classification schemes, indexes, and metadata for their retrieval; employing technology for automation in libraries; and fostering a user-oriented approach to promote literacy, research, and lifelong learning. Library Science is also concerned with the ethical issues related to intellectual freedom, privacy, and access to information, as well as the cultural and social aspects of library services in diverse communities and institutions.
