Definition of Special Education Services as it relates to Education, Early Childhood Education, Head Start Programs

Special Education Services refers to the specialized instruction and support provided to students with disabilities, ranging from mild learning difficulties to severe cognitive impairments, in order to meet their unique educational needs and ensure they have equal access to education. These services may include individualized education programs (IEPs), speech therapy, occupational therapy, physical therapy, behavior intervention, adaptive technology, and assistive communication devices, among others. Special Education Services can be provided in a variety of settings, including general education classrooms, resource rooms, self-contained classrooms, and separate schools. Early Childhood Education programs, such as Head Start Programs, may also provide special education services to young children with disabilities.
