Definition of Assistive Technology as it relates to Education, Adult Education, Special Education

Assistive Technology refers to devices and services designed to help individuals with disabilities, including those in educational settings such as K-12 schools, adult education programs, and special education classes, fully participate in learning and daily activities. It includes tools that promote accessibility, communication, and independence, enabling users to overcome physical, sensory, or cognitive challenges. Examples of Assistive Technology include screen readers, hearing aids, mobility aids, communication devices, and adaptive computer equipment. The goal of Assistive Technology is to enhance the functional capabilities of individuals with disabilities, empowering them to lead fulfilling lives and reach their full potential.
