Sustainable Development

Definition of Sustainable Development as it relates to Architecture, Green Building, Green Building Materials

Sustainable building, also known as green building, refers to the design and construction practice of creating environmentally responsible, resource-efficient buildings that reduce negative impacts on human health and the natural environment. Sustainable architecture prioritizes energy efficiency, water conservation, use of sustainable materials, and waste reduction throughout the entire building lifecycle, from siting to design, construction, operation, maintenance, renovation, and deconstruction. Green building materials are those that have a lower environmental impact than traditional materials due to their sourcing, production, or disposal processes. Sustainable building encompasses a holistic approach to architecture, considering social, economic, and environmental factors in the pursuit of long-term sustainability and resilience.
