Monkeys are intelligent primates known for their dexterity and social behavior. They belong to the infraorder Simiiformes, which includes both Old World monkeys (such as baboons and macaques) and New World monkeys (such as capuchins and spider monkeys). Monkeys are characterized by their lack of tails and their ability to climb trees using all four limbs. They have a diverse range of diets, including fruits, nuts, insects, and small vertebrates. Some species of monkeys, such as the rhesus macaque and the capuchin monkey, are commonly found in zoos and research facilities due to their adaptability to captivity. Monkeys play an important role in ecosystems by dispersing seeds and serving as prey for larger predators. Unfortunately, many species of monkeys are threatened by habitat loss, hunting, and disease, making conservation efforts essential for their survival.
