Herbivores
Herbivores are mammalian animals characterized by their exclusive plant-based diets, which consist primarily of grasses, leaves, and other vegetation. This dietary preference is reflected in their physical adaptations, such as broad molars for grinding plant material and a specialized digestive system that facilitates the breakdown of cellulose, a complex carbohydrate found in plants. Hippos are a notable example of herbivorous mammals, as they feed on aquatic vegetation and grasses along riverbanks. Other examples of herbivores include elephants, giraffes, deer, and rabbits, all of which have evolved specialized feeding strategies to maximize their intake of plant material in their respective habitats.
