Sharks are elongated, torpedo-shaped marine animals belonging to the class Chondrichthyes and order Selachimorpha. They possess several distinctive physical characteristics such as streamlined bodies, five or more gill slits on each side, pectoral and pelvic fins, and a cartilaginous skeleton. Sharks are known for their predatory nature and keen senses, including the ability to detect electrical fields generated by other animals. They inhabit a wide range of aquatic environments, from shallow coastal waters to deep seas, and play an essential role in maintaining the balance of marine ecosystems as top-tier predators.
