Vertebrates
Vertebrates are a group of animals characterized by the presence of a spinal column, or backbone. This complex structure not only provides support and protection for the delicate nervous system, but also serves as an attachment site for powerful muscles that enable these creatures to move with grace and agility. Vertebrates encompass a diverse array of species, ranging from the familiar mammals that include humans, to the sleek and majestic felines that prowl the wilds, and even to the humble fish that dart through coral reefs. Despite their many differences, all vertebrates share a common evolutionary history, one that stretches back hundreds of millions of years and has given rise to some of the most successful and charismatic organisms on Earth.
