Apes

Definition of Apes as it relates to Animals, Mammals, Chimpanzees

Apes are intelligent, social mammals known for their complex behaviors and problem-solving abilities. They belong to the superfamily Hominoidea, which includes humans and their closest living relatives. Apes have a number of distinct characteristics that set them apart from other primates, such as a lack of tails, a more upright posture than monkeys, and a highly developed brain. The apes are divided into two main groups: the lesser apes (gibbons and siamangs) and the great apes (orangutans, gorillas, bonobos, chimpanzees, and humans). Apes live in various habitats across Africa and Asia, and their diets consist of fruits, leaves, insects, and occasionally smaller animals. They communicate with each other through a variety of vocalizations, facial expressions, and body language, and many species have been observed using tools to accomplish tasks. Unfortunately, apes are facing numerous threats to their survival, including habitat loss, poaching, and disease, and several species are considered endangered or critically endangered.
