Hemiptera is an insect order characterized by piercing-sucking mouthparts, which they use to feed on plant sap or the bodily fluids of other animals. They have forewings that are partially thickened at the base and membranous at the tip, giving them a distinctive appearance. Hemipterans undergo incomplete metamorphosis, with nymphs resembling adults but lacking wings. Some common examples of Hemiptera include aphids, cicadas, and true bugs.
