Cryptobranchids

Cryptobranchids are a family of fully aquatic salamanders known for their large size and flattened bodies. They have long, slender tails and external gills, which they use to breathe underwater. These amphibians are primarily found in North America and Asia, where they inhabit cool, fast-flowing streams and rivers. Cryptobranchids are nocturnal and carnivorous, feeding on a variety of prey such as fish, insects, and small mammals. One well-known species in this family is the Chinese giant salamander, which holds the title of being the largest amphibian in the world.
