Cell Division
Cell division is the process by which a parent cell divides into two or more daughter cells, each containing a complete set of chromosomes. This essential biological process is critical for growth, repair, and reproduction in all living organisms. There are two main types of cell division: mitosis, in which the parent cell divides into two identical daughter cells, and meiosis, which produces four daughter cells with half the number of chromosomes as the parent cell. Cell division is tightly regulated by a complex series of molecular events to ensure that each daughter cell receives the correct amount of genetic material.
