Alleles
Alleles are alternative forms of a gene that can occupy the same locus on a chromosome. They can result in different traits or characteristics in an organism. Alleles can be dominant or recessive, and an individual typically inherits one allele from each parent for a particular gene. Alleles are important in determining genetic diversity and variability within a population.
