Sea Turtles Green Sea Turtle
The Green Sea Turtle, also known by its scientific name Chelonia mydas, is a species of sea turtle found in tropical and subtropical waters around the world. These turtles are named for the green color of their fat, rather than their shells, which can range in color from olive-brown to black. Green Sea Turtles are herbivores, feeding primarily on seagrasses and algae. They are known for their distinctive heart-shaped shells and can weigh up to 700 pounds. These turtles are gentle creatures, but are unfortunately threatened by pollution, habitat destruction, and poaching.
