Routers are specialized networking devices designed to facilitate the connection and communication between different networks, including those associated with electronics, computers, edge computing systems, cell phones, and other Internet of Things (IoT) devices. They operate at the network layer (Layer 3) of the OSI model and use routing protocols to determine optimal paths for data transmission.
