Technical Writing is a style of writing focused on clear, concise communication of complex information related to technology and science. It bridges the gap between expert technical knowledge and those who need to understand it. As a form of Nonfiction Writing, Technical Writing uses facts and real-world examples to inform audiences about specific topics like software user manuals or scientific research papers. However, unlike other types of Nonfiction Writing, Technical Writing prioritizes practical application over entertainment value. It is also closely related to Research Writing as it often requires extensive background study and analysis before the actual writing process begins. Technical Writers must be able to translate complex technical jargon into simple language that can be easily understood by non-experts, making it an essential part of both Writing and Reseach Writing.
