Volcanoes

Definition of Volcanoes as it relates to Cultures, Polynesian Culture, Hawaiian Islands

Volcanoes are geological formations that result from magma rising from beneath the Earth's crust and erupting onto the surface. They are found all over the world, including in the Pacific "Ring of Fire," which includes the Hawaiian Islands. Volcanoes have played a significant role in shaping the landscape and cultures of many regions. For example, in Polynesian culture, volcanoes are often considered sacred and are associated with deities and legends. The Hawaiian Islands themselves are the result of volcanic activity, with the Big Island still growing due to ongoing eruptions at Kilauea and Mauna Loa. In Hawaii, volcanoes are revered for their power and beauty, and they continue to be an important part of the islands' cultural identity.
