Cultural Anthropology
Cultural Anthropology is the study of human societies and cultures, both past and present. It seeks to understand the diversity and complexity of human behavior by examining the customs, beliefs, and social institutions of different groups. Cultural anthropologists conduct ethnographic research, which involves living among the people they are studying and learning about their way of life through participant observation and interviews. They aim to provide a holistic understanding of culture, taking into account all aspects of social and symbolic life, including language, religion, art, kinship, economics, and politics. In contrast to sociology, which focuses on the study of social structures and processes within modern industrial societies, cultural anthropology has a global perspective and is interested in both small-scale and complex societies. The culture of the United States is one of many that can be studied through this lens, providing insight into the values, practices, and historical influences that shape American society.
