Indigenous Peoples

Definition of Indigenous Peoples as it relates to Cultures, Asian Culture, Filipino Culture

Indigenous Peoples: A term denoting the original or early inhabitants of a region or country, distinct from those who later immigrated or invaded. It encompasses diverse cultures, languages, knowledge systems, and traditions that have developed over millennia in harmony with their natural environments. Notably, Asian Indigenous Peoples include various ethnic groups across the continent, such as Filipino Lumads, Aeta, Ati, and other tribes who maintain unique customs, beliefs, and ways of life that contrast with mainstream societies. These communities often face challenges related to land rights, self-determination, cultural preservation, and socioeconomic development, necessitating recognition, respect, and support from both national governments and the international community.
