Mechanical Waves
Definition of Mechanical Waves as it relates to Science, Physics, Vibrations
Mechanical waves are propagations of disturbances, where the particles in a medium oscillate about their equilibrium positions. They can be classified into transverse and longitudinal types based on the direction of particle motion relative to wave motion. Examples include sound waves in air, seismic waves in Earth, water waves, and Rayleigh waves. These waves are fundamental to understanding many aspects of physics, particularly those relating to vibrations and wave propagation, and thus fall under the broader field of Science and Physics.
