Medical Physics

Definition of Medical Physics as it relates to Science, Physics

Medical Physics is an interdisciplinary field that applies principles and techniques from physics to medicine. It encompasses the development, application, and evaluation of medical technologies, procedures, and treatments that rely on physical phenomena. This can include the use of ionizing radiation in diagnostic imaging and cancer therapy, the application of magnetic fields and radio waves in magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), and the use of ultrasound for both diagnostic and therapeutic purposes. Medical physicists may also be involved in the design and optimization of medical equipment, as well as the development of new technologies for medical diagnosis and treatment. Ultimately, the goal of medical physics is to improve patient care through the application of physical principles and techniques.
